How to use the treble clef notes chart
The notes on the treble clef are E G B D F on the lines and F A C E in the spaces; this chart shows every treble clef note from G3 to C6, and you tap a note to hear it and see its key on the piano. The chart shows the treble clef notes from G3, below the staff, up to C6, two ledger lines above it. Tap any note: it plays on the piano, its name appears in the box under the staff with where it sits, and the matching key lights up on the keyboard. You can also tap a white key to find that note on the staff. On a computer, the left and right arrow keys step through the notes one by one.
The chips at the top change the view. Lines, Spaces and Ledger lines highlight one group and fade the rest. Grand staff adds the bass staff below, so you can see how the two clefs share middle C. Quiz shows one note at a time; answer with the letter buttons or the keys C to B. Untick Show note names to test yourself on the chart.
The lines and spaces of the treble clef
Counting from the bottom, the five lines of the treble staff are E G B D F (E4, G4, B4, D5, F5). The four spaces between them are F A C E (F4, A4, C5, E5). Notes go up one letter for every step from a line to the next space, so the staff reads E F G A B C D E F from the bottom line to the top line.
Two common mnemonics help beginners: Every Good Boy Does Fine for the lines, and the word FACE for the spaces. Mnemonics are a starting point. Readers who get fast learn a few landmark notes and read the others as steps up or down from them.
Why it is called the G clef
The treble clef is a G clef. Its curl wraps around the second line from the bottom, and that line is G4, the G above middle C. If you forget every other note, find the curl, name that line G, and count up or down from there. Other G notes are easy to spot too: G5 sits in the space just above the staff and G3 hangs below the second ledger line.
Ledger lines above and below
Notes that are too high or too low for the five lines get short extra lines of their own, called ledger lines. The pattern of lines and spaces simply continues. One ledger line below the staff is middle C (C4); the space just under the bottom line is D4. Above the staff, the first ledger line is A5 and the second is C6. Each ledger line is a third away from the next, exactly like the lines of the staff.

Who reads the treble clef
According to the Wikipedia article Clef, the treble clef is used for the violin, flute, oboe, clarinets, saxophones, horn, trumpet, mandolin, recorder and guitar, among others, and for soprano, alto and tenor voices. It is also the upper staff of the grand staff used for piano and harp. To find these notes on an instrument, see the violin notes chart, or check a note's pitch with the flute tuner. When you can name these notes quickly, practise reading them at speed in the note reading trainer, and compare them with the bass clef notes if you play piano.
